A Week of Giving Back: ScaleFlux’s Volunteer Efforts at Second Harvest and Our City Forest

Our week of service kicked off at Second Harvest of Silicon Valley, an organization committed to doing whatever it takes to end hunger in our community. That means distributing nutritious food to nearly every neighborhood in Silicon Valley, leveraging every available food resource, and collaborating with organizations and people who share their belief that hunger is unacceptable. “Nutritious food is the foundation for a healthy, productive life.”

The day started with a brief orientation where we learned about the staggering need for food assistance in Silicon Valley. With the increasing cost of living, many families are struggling to make ends meet, and Second Harvest plays a crucial role in bridging that gap.

Our team was assigned to the food sorting station, where we worked together to inspect, organize, and package donations. It was an eye-opening experience to see the volume of food that passes through their facility every day, and it felt rewarding to know that our efforts were helping to ensure that this food would reach those who need it most. We are proud to have sorted 4095 of pounds of food.

The second half of our volunteer week took us outdoors with Our City Forest, a nonprofit dedicated to cultivating a greener, more sustainable Silicon Valley through urban forestry and environmental stewardship.

We began our day at their community nursery, where we rolled up our sleeves and got to work caring for the young trees and plants that will one day shade our streets and beautify our neighborhoods. Tasks included weeding, pruning, and preparing saplings for planting, all while learning about the importance of urban forestry in combating climate change and improving air quality. There was something profoundly satisfying about planting a tree, knowing that it will stand as a symbol of sustainability and community effort for years to come.

At ScaleFlux, we’re deeply committed to the idea that giving back isn’t just a one-time event, but a continuous effort to support and uplift the communities that have supported us. We’ll definitely renew the experience! 🌳🌾🍚

Volunteering at Second Harvest and Our City Forest was a humbling reminder of the challenges many in our community face, as well as the power of collective effort in making a difference. We’re proud to contribute to these causes and are grateful for the opportunity to work alongside these organizations in their vital missions. Thank you to Second Harvest of Silicon Valley and Our City Forest for the incredible work you do and for allowing us to be a part of it. 😊
